aespa’s Giselle apologizes for mouthing a racial slur

South Korean girl group aespa member Giselle has issued an official apology for mouthing a racial slur on camera. Two days ago, on October 23, aespa uploaded a behind-the-scenes video of the jacket shoot for their latest song ‘Savage.’

On October 25, Giselle posted an apology about the matter on aespa’s official Twitter handle. In the tweet, Giselle wrote, “I would like to apologize for mouthing the wrongful word from the lyrics of the song that was playing on-site. I had no intentions of doing it with any purpose and got carried away when one of my favorite artist's song was played. I sincerely apologize. I will continue to learn and be more conscious of my actions.”

Fans, who watched the video, noticed that while Giselle was mouthing the lyrics to SZA’s ‘Love Galore’ which was playing in the background, she had also mouthed the N-word that is part of the song. The video was deleted later.

On the work front, aespa released its first mini-album, Savage on October 5 which debuted on No. 20 on the Billboard 200 chart. It was well-received from the masses, receiving the first perfect all-kill for the group. The music video for the title song crossed the 100 million mark in under 18 days.
